The Middle or Dark Ages were between 500's through 1500. Life was horrible, people lost their common language, culture, & education. Most citizens were in poverty & and everything was going downhill, until the Church began to get control. The church began forming Christendom (church kingdoms). The church was giving a free education & helped preserve important things about their culture in libraries.
Since the Church had all the power in Europe, they felt like they had enough to take back the Holy Land from the Islam religion& back to Christianity, so Pope Urban II ordered The Crusades. Many Crusades tried to take the holy land but failed repeatedly. After he the forth desperate attempt to take the holy land, they came to a dedication to send children. The children crusade were sent to battle but many die on the way because of the unbearable weather. Once the children got to there destination they were sent back & again thousands died.

During the Middle Ages many Europeans would trade with Asia for many goods using the silk road. The silk road helped the trading business but it also helped spread the Black Plague all throughout Europe. The Black or Bubonic Plague was a disease that wiped-out 2/3 of Europe's population. The plague first started in Sicily, Italy & spread by fleas on rats. There was no cure as if you had it you'd be die in days. The plague lasted about five years, but it did some damage.
