The Enlightenment was mostly about politics & government. During this time period sprung the ideas of big government and small government as well as the Social Contract Theory. Then also came the separation of powers, which was a doctrine that made such no one branch have more power than the others, and our inalienable rights were found at this time too.
Thomas Hobbes favored big governments while John Locke favored small governments.David Hume & Jean-Jacques Rousseau agreed with Locke on a small government. Baron de Montesquieu had the separation of powers idea which complemented both big & small forms of government.
Another important person in this time was Mary Wollstonecraft. She argued that woman deserved a better education & a right to have any job they pleased including in politics. This started a spark in woman who wanted equal rights and continued until they received equal rights. The lives of many were changed in the Enlightenment.
